Former LMF Employee Pleads Guilty

From an AP story appearing in Wednesday’s Courant:

LITCHFIELD – A man accused of abusing his young son to make it look like the boy was seriously ill, allegedly scamming contributors out of thousands of dollars for bogus treatments, was convicted Tuesday of forgery, larceny and other charges.

Michael Bradway, 40, of Cornwall, pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Litchfield to forgery, larceny and risk of injury charges under the Alford doctrine, in which a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes the state has enough evidence to win a conviction, said Senior Assistant State’s Attorney John Massameno.

Bradway faces a sentence of about 10 years when he is sentenced Dec. 7…

Bradway was previously convicted in 1994 of larceny and forgery for operating as an unregistered broker in Massachusetts and embezzling $167,000, authorities said. He was sentenced to one year in prison.

Bradway was arrested again in July on charges he stole nearly $19,000 from Love Makes a Family, a nonprofit gay-rights group in Hartford, while serving as its finance and development director last year. He was fired from the job after his arrest.

The chief state’s attorney’s office said Bradway sold a 2002 Ford Mustang worth nearly $13,000 that was donated to Love Makes a Family and kept the proceeds. Prosecutors also said he used work credit cards to pay for vacations, auto repairs, a computer and other items for himself that were valued at about $6,000.

Bradway is expected to enter a plea Thursday in that case, Massameno said.
