Defending Direct Initiative
May 3rd, 2012 by Peter
Remember the 2008 Constitutional Convention Question? The poll showing 65% of Connecticut voters want direct initiative? The $800,000 smear campaign by teachers unions and same-sex “marriage” activists to prevent your right to vote?
Tom Foley does. His think tank, the Connecticut Policy Institute, has just put out a policy paper reviewing that unfortunate history and laying out the case for why Connecticut should not have to wait until 2018 for another opportunity to pass a direct initiative law. We highly recommend it.
FIC won Connecticut’s fight for traditional marriage at the legislative level…only to have our victory taken away by one judge who was not even a Supreme Court Justice. The experience taught us much about the facade that passes for representative democracy in Connecticut. Only a dose of direct democracy will cure what ails our beloved state.
