Pope Benedict XVI has chosen Bridgeport’s Bishop William E. Lori to be the next Archbishop of Baltimore. Family Institute of Connecticut executive director Peter Wolfgang has issued the following statement:

“In his biographies of Pope John Paul II, Catholic scholar George Weigel identifies two types of bishops: those who are focused on institutional maintenance and those who, like John Paul II, understand that the Church herself is a mission, that her purpose is to evangelize. William E. Lori is very much a bishop in the John Paul II style. He defended religious liberty vigorously against Connecticut’s aggressive secularism, oftentimes bypassing the Church’s own bureaucracy to do it. Baltimore could not ask for a better shepherd to lead them through the challenges facing the Church in this second decade of the twenty-first century.”

We will miss Bishop Lori terribly. Who will the Diocese of Bridgeport’s next Bishop be? St. Augustine, pray for us!

Dear Excellency, I was on the verge of writing to you about the loss of one of your dogs. As a dog lover, I know how sad that is. I enjoyed seeing the picture of you and the dogs each month in the paper.
I was also going to write and ask about the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue coming to the Bridgeport Diocese.
And lastly, I pray for you every day. May St. Max Kolbe guide you and may Our Lady send you all the graces you need to make the right decisions and statements, no matter what some of the other bishops do. (For a while we did not have courageous bishops, except dear Bishop Bruskewicz, but I realize that we have a new crop of good bishops who are fighting for our Faith.)
