ARESIMOWICZ, MAZUREK AND THOMPSON ON THE ISSUE
October 27th, 2006 by Peter
Even Rep. Joe Aresimowicz (D – Berlin, Southington)—who is running against FIC Action Committee-endorsed candidate Ed Pocock—is backing away from his longstanding ties with Love Makes a Family. In a “Meet the Candidates” forum at St. Dominic Church that I attended on Wednesday night, each candidate was asked point blank if he would vote to legalize same-sex “marriage.” Here are Aresimowicz’s exact words in response:
“That would not be something I would support.”
Rep. John “Corky” Mazurek (D – Wolcott, Southington) went Aresimowicz one better, describing his vote against civil unions as the “easiest” he’s ever cast and noting that his constituent correspondence “by a factor of 30 or 40” urged him to vote against it.
“There has been an unwarranted attack on the family,” Thompson said. “I think certain laws such as civil unions are attributed to this. We’ve devalued marriage and the family.”
