The day began with a standing-room-only press conference on Rep. Art O’Neill’s homeschooling bill. It ended with all three of the bills FIC Action supports getting raised in committee. Our concepts on homeschooling, fatherlessness and a variation on parental notification were all raised for public hearing by the select committee on children.

Raising these bills is just the first step. They still need to be assigned numbers and some language. But we have a heavy agenda for one of the legislature’s “short sessions,” and this usually means spending a lot of time on defense. That all three of our bills were raised makes for a very good first day.

FIC Action wants to acknowledge in particular the outstanding work of NHELD in organizing this morning’s press conference. The overwhelming number of homeschooling families lobbying their legislators today and exhibiting their homeschool pride displays definitely had an impact.
