We congratulate pro-family Republican Rob Kane, who won Tuesday’s special election to be the next state senator from the 32nd district. In what the Waterbury Republican-American called “a critical victory for Senate Republicans”, Kane defeated anti-family candidate Ken Curran in eight of the district’s ten towns.

As late as last Friday local media outlets were running stories claiming that Rob Kane and his opponent had no differences on the issues. But in targeted e-mail alerts and letters-to-the-editor, FIC Action Committee exposed the truth: Rob Kane is strongly pro-family and his opponent was pro same-sex “marriage.” Those efforts had an impact on this closer-than-normal election.

The next day’s Republican American has a sidebar item letting the voters speak in their own words. Said Bill Sullivan of Oxford on why he voted for Kane:

I feel he best represents my values, morally and politically.

And, in the main article:

Greg Gibbons of Thomaston said he voted for Kane because of his stance on issues of morality, such as his opposition to gay marriage. He said he likes that Kane’s stand on many issues is similar to DeLuca’s.

But these issues were never discussed in media coverage of the special election. Without FIC Action Committee, most voters would not have known where the candidates stand on marriage protection and other family issues.

FIC Action Committee’s crucial role in educating voters about the values issues is especially evident in this e-mail received on Tuesday afternoon:

I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for your E-mails last week (1/08/08)!!

It is because of RECEIVING them, my awareness level was raised, regarding my districts’ upcoming election for State Senator.

The Presidential goings-on have really captured our attention, as many will agree and, although I would have gotten word in time to vote, there would not have been enough time to get involved and help the Rob Kane campaign.

Instead, I was able (and allowed) to put a non-partisan announcement in our church bulletin informing people of this very important election and encourage them to vote on the 15th.

After contacting campaign headquarters, and finding out that what was needed most was making phone calls, I made over 100 calls yesterday, to registered Republicans from Southbury.

I stopped in at headquarters today, to see how things were going and got to actually meet Rob, his wife and wonderful other family members. I pray he becomes our Senator. He is most definitely the right choice.

Thanks so much again, Peter, for helping to make a difference for our District and for Connecticut.

We thank those who stood up for their values and we congratulate Rob Kane, who will make a great pro-family state senator.
