Ten Pro-Family Bills

Between same-sex “marriage” and the pro-abortion attack on Christian hospitals it’s easy to lose sight of the good bills at the General Assembly. There have been, in fact, ten FIC endorsed pro-family bills introduced during the current session and more may be coming. Here’s the run down.

A bill has been introduced to create a task force to explore the causes of fatherlessness in Connecticut. This could be the legislature’s first major attempt to address the root cause of so many of our state’s social ills.

Connecticut is one of only six states in the nation that do not require a minor to notify her parents before obtaining an abortion, even though most state residents would support such a law. For the first time ever there will be a hearing this session on an FIC supported-parental notification law-a major victory in our pro-abortion legislature. Watch for more information as we get closer to the big day.

The state government, which has no competence in theological matters, is harassing Bible colleges whose curricula are entirely religious. A hearing has been held on an FIC-supported bill that would exempt those colleges from secular licensing processes.

We have all felt outrage at the billboards advertising smut on our state’s highways. A hearing has been held on an FIC-endorsed bill to allow greater zoning restrictions on those “adult” establishments-an important first step in detoxifying Connecticut’s moral environment.

Violent and sexually-explicit pop music is a plague on our nation’s youth-and it’s not going away any time soon. But a hearing was held on an FIC-endorsed bill to prohibit music with violent lyrics in public schools. Reclaiming responsibility for the protection and proper upbringing of our young people must begin somewhere.

Which is why FIC and FIC Action also support a bill requiring abortion clinics to report suspected instances of statutory rape, a bill protecting the right to homeschool in Connecticut, a “Laci and Connor”-style bill allowing a person to be charged with homicide or assault if the victim is an unborn child, a bill requiring that a woman be provided with an ultrasound photo of her unborn child before receiving an abortion and a bill to prohibit cloning.

Watch your e-mail in-boxes for information on what you can do to help pass some of these bills into law.
